The development of a wind farm is multi-faceted. EDF Energy Renewables has a range of in-house specialist skills to ensure that each aspect of a development is performed to an excellent standard. Where required, and after a rigorous selection process, EDF Energy Renewables will appoint external suppliers to carry out particular phases of a development.
GIS technology is used to identify areas of potential, taking into consideration all of the known constraints to build a wind farm.
Engineers measure wind speed and direction, as well as noise levels, to combine with the findings from data based research. The results are then used to estimate the size of a future wind farm and to validate the feasibility of the project.
If a site is then selected for full development, then an EDF Energy Renewables Development Manager will manage each phase of the consenting process, leading to submission of a planning application.
